Street style isn’t the same thing as fashion. It’s more personal, performative and singular. It’s also more fun.
On any given day, you’re likely to find Johnny Cirillo stationed on street corners in Williamsburg and Greenpoint snapping photos of fabulously attired New Yorkers. Through thousands of snapshots over roughly seven years, he’s created a sizzling mosaic of street style in the borough under his “Watching New York” moniker.
These are a couple of his more recent subjects. This is Looklyn.

JADEN EDWARDS
Age: 22
How do you identify? She/her
Occupation: Content creator
Fashion inspo: I draw most of my fashion inspiration from characters in TV and film. I take a little piece of each of my favorite characters’ style every time I get hooked on a series or movie.
About the fit: My top is hand-knit from a small female-owned brand in Brooklyn called Verconiik. My “skirt” is actually the underlining of a slip dress, which I pinned up with a pair of earrings I had lying around. My tote that I always carry around is from another small brand called Never Lose Your Aura. Glasses are Lexxolas and shoes are Alohas.
About me: I have a hard time describing myself because I really don’t know who I am yet. All I know is I’m happy, inspired and grateful I get to wake up every day and navigate my way through the world.
Thoughts on life: I try not to take things too seriously. It’s everyone’s first time doing life and we’re all a little lost, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
Where are you headed? The bookstore.

CHAZ LANGLEY
Age: Forty-something
How do you identify? Male
Occupation: Visual artist and singer
Fashion inspo: Personal style has always been a point of interest for as long as I could remember. Fashion to me has always had an expiration date attached to it, which wasn’t very appealing to me. I can tell you that personal style for me [began] with my mom when she used to dress me in nice clothes (Garanimals, in particular). She always stressed the importance of dressing well and that “good clothes open all doors.” She was right, and having this interview is proof of that.
About the fit: The fit derived from my love of earth tone and the sneak peek of fall in the air.
From head to toe:
- The hat is custom-made by me.
- The bandana is from Camp Yoshi.
- The jacket is an authentic Japanese denim work coat.
- The tank top is the Scott Fraser Collection.
- The timepiece is a vintage Rolex Datejust.
- The leather bracelet is by Langley Leather (my brand).
- The trousers are a Black-owned brand owned by friends of mine called ThGrpPrjct.
- The silk belt is by Lazaro SoHo.
The boots are by one of my favorite brands based out of Nashville and L.A. called SAVAS.
About me: I moved to New York City from Nashville, Tennessee, 16 years ago (May 5, to be exact). I moved here to be amongst some of the best in the world at everything. I feel like it was always the place for me, but I knew I had to learn some valuable lessons before embarking on this journey.
I also learned quickly what helps create the thread of NYC: It’s the contributors. I wanted to be one of them. In Nashville, I waited tables, modeled a little and was a singer-songwriter with some of the best in the world.
These experiences really helped me transition to New York seamlessly. One of my dreams was to be a first-call, top-tier session singer, which I have been blessed to become, singing on many commercials you may have heard of ranging from the Super Bowl, Mercedes, McDonald’s and many more.
Along the way, the city inspired me to pick up a camera and capture life around me as a street photographer. This opened other opportunities to work with brands and other companies looking to elevate their visibility on social media and beyond.
All of these experiences led me here, to yet another amazing moment in my journey.
Thoughts on life: My personal quote is: “Find the place in life where you shine the brightest.” I believe in helping people to see the best in themselves and in life. I also believe that we all need to travel more. There’s so much more to experience in this world. Not to mention, America ain’t looking too good right now.
Where are you headed? Ha, this is funny because at the moment I’m heading to check on a pair of boots that I was waiting to be marked off 50 percent but was a day early. I’m definitely calling first, given that it was an hour to get there.
